Some think it is tied to the rocky cliff history of Rock Doves — that they prefer high ledges and places out of view. Maybe. But they have also been domesticated for an awfully long time.
And speaking of that long domesticated history — going farther back than many realize — it also makes sense that their comfort with humans is part of what draws them to densely populated areas, which just happen to offer plenty of ledges and rooftops. But then again, there are trees too. Why not there?
Pigeons are flock birds, and safety is found in number. They also weigh about a pound each, which makes tree nesting less practical for a communal bird that needs real space to live together.
That brings us to another simple answer, and the idea behind Baby Pigeon Mystery: baby floofs are some of the sweetest, softest, friendliest little things imaginable. They get excited easily and will often let a human hand — which they fit into perfectly — scoop them right up. With sweet cheeps and squeaks that can melt a heart like ice in summer, it may simply not be the best idea for humans to have easy access to them. At least, from a good pigeon parent’s point of view. And from much observation, I can confirm that most pigeon parents are exactly that.
But that is just our opinion. If nothing else, it makes a cute design — and a very good excuse to show the world just how adorable baby pigeons really are.
